Review of Two Weeks in Australia
by Keith Cameron

From NME 3rd July 1993

Further proof for the "Evan-Up-Here" cult of Mr Dando arrives in the form of this collection that's several notches above the average between-albums fleece-the-fans video scam. Two Weeks... splices Camcorder footage from the band's spring jaunt to Oz between all the recent 'Heads promos and succeeds in avoiding the on-the-road document cliches in favour of something a good deal more intimate and fun.

It was in Australia, of course, where Dando regained his inspiration to write after the band broke up on the 'Lovey' tour, and so it's no wonder that he should appear relaxed and happy in this home from home. We get to meet Alison - she who was "starting to happen" - as well as a nostalgic nose around bassist Nic Dalton's old stamping grounds, and are also treated to first-hand experience of mad-dog tour manager Alex MacLeod's hard-but-fair road regime.

As for the promos, all as positivity in excelsis, including a specially-filmed clip for 'Rockin' Stroll' that explains what the dinkin-doo it's all about, and there's an acoustic rendering of 'It's About Time', Evan's paean to Juliana Hatfield that's due to grace the next Lemonheads LP.

All this and a distinguished cameo from NME lens-fella Derek Ridgers (the bearded pony-tailed chap at the in-store signing), Two Weeks... is a too-rare beast: the unreservedly recommended rockumentary.
